MARIETTA, Ohio—The Otterbein University women's tennis team breezed through to its seventh-straight victory, defeating Marietta College, 9-0, Wednesday in Marietta.
With the win—Otterbein's third-straight shutout—the Cardinals improved to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). The team shares first place in the OAC with Ohio Northern University (10-2, 2-0).
Over the course of the nine matches, Otterbein gave up just eight games, four each in singles and doubles play.
Julie Stroyne, Sammi Kruger, Emma Krummel, and Adrien Leatherwood all turned in 2-0 records on the day.
Stroyne and Kruger shut down their Marietta opponents, 8-0, in first doubles. Krummel and Leatherwood won second doubles, 8-2, and Emily Harper and Kerigan McNamara took third doubles, 8-2.
Stroyne, at first singles, Kruger, second singles, and Rylie Markle, fifth singles, each posted 6-0, 6-0 shutouts.
Krummel won third singles, 6-0, 6-1; Leatherwood took fourth singles, 6-0, 6-1; and Megan Locke won sixth singles, 6-0, 6-2.
Otterbein is scheduled to return to the courts Saturday, hosting Baldwin Wallace University, beginning at 1 p.m. The Yellow Jackets, 6-9 overall, hold down the third spot in the OAC with a 2-1 record.
