Stroyne Named OAC Player of the Year

Complete Release

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Otterbein University junior Julie Stroyne (Venetia, Pa./Peters Twp.) and head coach Pat Anderson were named the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Player and Coach of the Year, respectively, Wednesday afternoon.

In addition to Stroyne and Anderson, the Cardinals had three more players earn All-OAC honors. Freshman Sammi Kruger (Cincinnati/Sycamore) joined Stroyne on the first team, freshman Adrien Leatherwood (Ashville/Teays Valley) claimed second- team honors, and sophomore Emma Krummel (Richfield/Archbishop Hoban) earned a spot on the honorable mention list.

Stroyne earned the conference player of the year award for the third time in her career. This season, she compiled a perfect 22-0 record at No. 1 singles, posted seven shutouts, and lost just one set the entire season. A three-time OAC Player of the Week winner this season, Stroyne was selected as an alternate to the 2013 NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championships, which take place May 23-25 in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Kruger turned in an impressive rookie campaign to earn first-team All-OAC. She posted a 16-2 record at No. 2 singles and went 3-0 at No. 3 singles in fall competition. She also teamed with Stroyne to create a formidable duo at No. 1 doubles. The pair was 15-3 overall and finished 8-2 against OAC opponents.

Leatherwood earned a nod on the second team after finishing the year with a combined 13-6 record between No. 4 and No. 5 singles, including an 8-1 mark vs. conference foes. She also posted impressive numbers at No. 2 doubles, going 16-4 overall and 8-1 against the OAC.

Krummel earned all-conference honors for the first time, finishing the season 5-2 against conference opponents at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. She completed the season 11-6 at singles and posted a 14-4 record in doubles, pairing with Leatherwood to go 12-3 overall.

Anderson was named the OAC Coach of the Year for the third time in her career and first time since she earned the honor in 2003. She guided the Cardinals to an 18-5 overall record, with an 8-1 mark in conference play; and Otterbein advanced to the OAC Championship match for the first time since 2010.

The player of the year, coach of the year, and all-conference teams are voted on by the OAC women’s tennis coaches.
