WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinal men’s tennis team defeated Heidelberg University 9-0 Thursday, before they were edged by Capital University 5-4 Saturday afternoon.

With the split, Otterbein University concludes its 2013 regular season with a 6-3 record in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), 14-6 overall. The Cardinals will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming conference tournament, and will host Marietta College on Tuesday, April 30.

Meanwhile, the win improves the Crusaders to 7-2 in league play and secures for them the No. 2 seed in the OAC Tournament. They conclude the season with a 12-5 overall record.

Otterbein completed the week after an easy 9-0 win over Heidelberg on Thursday.

Otterbein fell behind 2-1 after doubles competition when the No. 1 team of freshmen Will Willson and David Seckel was knocked off after being one game away from victory. Both rebounded with victories in singles play to keep the match close.

However, junior Ryan Shutt was the only other Cardinal to secure a singles victory, sending the visiting Crusaders to the 5-4 win and the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament.

The Cardinals will host round one of the OAC Tournament Tuesday, April 30, when they host Marietta. The match is set to begin at 3:30 p.m
