Bennett Concludes Record-Setting Season

Final Results

CLAREMONT, CALIF. – Otterbein University junior Kristen Bennett concluded her record-setting season Saturday evening, falling short of the finals in the triple jump at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships at Fritz B. Burns Stadium.

Bennett’s best jump came in at 36-6 ¾, falling short of the cut line for the finals. She also finished 13th in the long jump Thursday evening.

“I wasn’t certain whether I would even do track and field this year, but I couldn’t let it pass me by with it being the last opportunity to compete,” said Bennett, who will graduate this coming winter. “I couldn’t be happier with my decision because I was able to set personal bests in the long jump and try a new event in the triple jump.”

Bennett enjoyed a standout winter and spring in her lone season competing with the track and field team. After qualifying for the Indoor NCAA Championships, she set an Ohio Athletic Conference record in the long jump (19-8 ¼) while also setting a new school record with a leap of 38-7 in the triple jump during outdoor season.

She finished second in the 100-meter dash at the conference championship meet in April, and was also a member of the 4x100 relay team.

“Qualifying for nationals in two events is something that I will always remember,” Bennett continued.  “I am sad that I am done competing in track and field at the collegiate level, and although this weekend didn’t go as I had hoped, I am proud of what I was able to accomplish in my one year of track and field at Otterbein.”
