MARIETTA, Ohio—Otterbein University’s women’s track and field team won the OAC South meet at Marietta on Saturday. Otterbein’s depth was evident, scoring points in 18 of 19 events and winning five events.
This was the second win in as many weeks for Otterbein. Final team scoring had Otterbein with 163 points, followed by Capital (138), Marietta (133), Muskingum (81), and Wilmington (65).
“I was very pleased with the women’s effort, thought we competed well,” said head coach David Lehman.
Junior Samantha Stolarz won the 500-meter dash (1:24.70). Stolarz also ran on the winning 4x400-meter relay team (4:20.57) with sophomore Kaila Cramer and freshmen Allison Thomas and Alex Taylor.
Cramer scored points in two other events. Cramer took second place in the 800-meter run (2:28.66) and ran on the second place distance medley team (12:52.92). Joining Cramer in the distance medley were junior Rebekah Reese and seniors Nicole Elliott and Jessica Church.
Reese won the 3000-meter run with a personal best time (10:39.83) while Elliot finished in third place (10:54.14).
Church also ran on the second-place 4x200-meter relay team (1:49.36) with sophomore Jasmine Troyer and freshmen Abbey Gray and Altheria Siler.
Otterbein dominated the 55-meter hurdles; with Gray winning (8.59), sophomore Rachel McKeever placing second (8.92) and Taylor scoring in fifth place (9.34).
Church and her fellow jumpers were big contributors to the team’s winning cause. Church placed second in the high jump (4-11), while freshman Taylor Savage finished third in the long jump (15-10 1/2). Freshman Kristen Norris took second-place in the triple jump (32-8 1/2).
Otterbein garnered points from three athletes in the pole vault event. Junior Jordan Long won the competition (10-6), sophomore Ayla Starcher placed third (10-0) and senior Mackenzie Farkas finished sixth (8-6).
Sophomore thrower Liza Elliot continued her success on Saturday, scoring in two events, both personal bests. Elliot placed fourth in the shot put (36-0) and fifth in the weight throw (40-4 3/4).
“The ladies picked it up and scored about 20 points more than I had predicted,” Lehman said. “At this point, both teams just need to get healthier and get their legs back under them after a tough few weeks.”
Otterbein travels to Ohio Northern University on Feb. 4 for the Polar Bear Invitational.
