WESTERVILLE, OHIO -- The Otterbein University men’s track and field team won four events and claimed the team title at the five-team Otterbein Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Clements Recreation Center.
“Always nice to win,” said Otterbein men’s track and field coach Dave Lehman. “It's early in the season, but still fun to win. The kids got excited, especially on the mile relay at the end.”
The Cardinals tallied 227 points en route to the victory. Ohio Dominican, a member of NCAA Division II, finished second with 153.
The aforementioned 4x400 relay team of junior Arnez Franklin, sophomores Lucas Armstrong and Andrew Mantell, and freshman Lucas Rogers notched a first place finish with a time of 3:28.84. Franklin also grabbed a second place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.08. Mantell also claimed the 800 meter run title, finishing at 1:58.22.
“Mantell had a great day,” added Lehman. “He won the 800 with a solid time. He was in the mile relay that had an exciting race at the end of the day as well.”
Freshman Josh Ford won the 500 meter dash in 1:12.01, while classmate Devon Fitzgerald finished right behind him at 1:12.79.
Otterbein finished with the top two pole vaults, with sophomore Aaric Milligan winning the event with his vault of 4.25 meters. Freshman Cory Wunderle took second with a vault of 3.95 meters.
The Cardinals also finished with three of the top four performances in the triple jump. Seniors Daniel Mayo (12.27 meters) and Dimitrios Spantithos (12.22 meters) finished second and third respectively while freshman Matthew Quinn finished in fourth with a jump of 12.21 meters.

“A lot of solid performances and a good day for the men,” said Lehman. “Winning is always a good thing."
